Attorney Frederick B. "Rick" Gieg Jr., 70, Hollidaysburg, died Sunday morning, August 14, 2016, at his residence following a brave and courageous battle with cancer.

He was born in Altoona, son of the late Fred B. and Martha Elizabeth (O'Brien) Gieg.

Rick married Tessie Fox.

Surviving are his loving wife of over forty years; four sons:  Kyle and wife, Raylene; Eric; Matt and wife Erin; Mike; four grandchildren: Trey, Tayva, Emily and Christian.

Rick was a graduate of Hollidaysburg High School, class of 1964; Juniata College in 1968; and Duquesne University School of Law in 1971, where he was a member of the Law Review and Editor of the Law School magazine.

He initially joined his father, Fred Sr., in 1971 and practiced with him until his death in 2000.  The firm now consists of his sons, Matthew P., Michael N., and Christopher Jancula.

Rick was a member of the Blair County Bar Association; the Pennsylvania Association for Justice; he was a member in good standing of the Pennsylvania Bar Association; Pennsylvania's Superior and Supreme Courts and was admitted in good standing with the United States District Court for the Western District of Pennsylvania and the United States Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit.

He was a board member of Central Bank for thirteen years until its merger with First Commonwealth Bank.  Rick served as Solicitor for:  Investment Savings Bank; Martinsburg Borough since the early 1970s and the Martinsburg Municipal Authority; Frankstown Township and the Frankstown Twp. Sewer Authority; Blair Township and Blair Twp. Water and Sewer Authority since 1980; and Roaring Spring Borough and Municipal Authority for over twenty years.  In addition he served as Solicitor for Woodbury Township, Bedford County.

Attorney Gieg served as Blair County District Attorney from 1976-1980 and also as Mediator for over twenty years.  He was a Title Insurance Lawyer and owner of Allegheny Real Estate Closing Company, Inc., in Hollidaysburg.

Rick was very active in representing claimants in Workers' Compensation and plaintiffs in personal injury cases. He represented many businesses and individuals in the Blair County area.

His passion was helping and providing comfort to people in need.  Rick enjoyed sports.  Being an avid golfer, he especially loved golfing with his boys.  He was a member of Scotch Valley Country Club for many years. He cherished every moment with his grandchildren.  Rick loved his wife, Tessie more than words could ever describe.

Friends will be received 1 - 8 pm Tuesday, August 16th at Sorge Funeral Home, Inc.,. Hollidaysburg where a vigil service will be held.

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated 10:30 am Wednesday, August 17th at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, Altoona.

Entombment in Calvary Cemetery Mausoleum.

Memorials may be given to the American Cancer Society.
