James R. Malone
January 10, 1926 ~ November 3, 2017 (age 91) 91 Years OldJames R. Malone, 91, Duncansville, passed away Friday, November 3, 2017, at UPMC Altoona.
He was born January 10, 1926, in Roaring Spring, son of the late Charles and Sarah (Fissel) Malone. He married Hazel E. Yingling on September 15, 1945, in Towson, Md., and she preceded him in death on July 18, 2005, after having shared 59 years of marriage.
Surviving are a daughter, M. Judy Trovato and husband, Stephen, of Duncansville; three beloved grandchildren: Stephen Benton and wife, Kelly, of Hollidaysburg, James Benton and wife, Lisa, of Colver and Angela (Trovato) Waibel and husband, Robert, of Duncansville; five great-grandchildren: Madison, twins Luca and Sophia, Brooke and Brielle; a sister, Shirley Plunkett of Gallitzin; and a brother-in-law, Paul Dibosky.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Edith Dibosky; and a brother-in-law, Joe Plunkett.
James served with the U.S. Navy in the Pacific theatre during WWII. He retired from Conrail as supervisor of materials at the South Altoona shop after 42 years of service.
James was a member of Chimney Rocks Beagle Club and formerly competed in a civilian marksmanship program. He was a member of Newry Lutheran Church. He enjoyed his family, hunting, raising beagles and gardening. He participated in Blair County Baseball League and loved to watch Penn State football, Pittsburgh Steelers, the Pittsburgh Pirates and the Yankees.
Friends will be received from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Monday, November 6, 2017, at Sorge Funeral Home Inc., Hollidaysburg, and from 9:00 to 9:45 a.m. Tuesday, November 7, 2017, at Newry Lutheran Church, where a funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. by Pastor John Telyea. Interment will be in Newry Lutheran Cemetery, with military honors by Blair County Veterans Honor guard. Memorial contributions may be made to Newry Lutheran Church.
