Joyce B. (Burkett) Waryck

Joyce B. Waryck, 80, of Hollidaysburg, passed away Saturday, August 19, 2017 at The Lutheran Home at Hollidaysburg.

She was born September 26, 1936 in Coalmont, PA, daughter of the late Raymond and Anna (Donaldson) Burkett.  Joyce married William V. Waryck, June 8, 1957 in Hagerstown, MD.  He preceded her in death January 28, 2011 after having shared 53 years of marriage.

Surviving are a daughter, Debra A. Springer and husband, Christopher of Duncansville; two sons:  William M. and wife, Janet of Indiana, PA; Robert M. and wife, Tracy of Bangor, ME; six grandchildren:  Alyssa, Kaleb, Anna, Brian, Breanna, Ryan; a great-grandchild; and a sister, Kaye Pickus of Poolesville, MD.

Joyce was a graduate of Hagerstown High School, class of 1954 and a 1954 graduate of Juniata College with a degree in Elementary Education.  She retired from Hollidaysburg Area School District as an elementary teacher.  Prior to that she taught in the Altoona School District.

She was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church, Hollidaysburg.

Joyce belonged to Silver Sneakers and was active in Friends of the Hollidaysburg Library. She enjoyed activities at the YMCA, walking, traveling, reading and painting.

Friends will be received from 6-8 pm Wednesday, August 23, 2017 at Sorge Funeral Home, Inc., Hollidaysburg where a Vigil Service will be held.

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated 10 am Thursday at St. Mary Catholic Church, Hollidaysburg by Father Anthony J. Legarski.  Committal at Calvary Cemetery, Altoona.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the Hollidaysburg Area Public Library 1 Furnace Road, Hollidaysburg, PA 16648 or the Hollidaysburg Area YMCA 1111 Hewitt Street, Hollidaysburg, PA 16648.
