Margaret E. "Peg" (Diehl) Oakes

Margaret E. “Peg” Oakes, 95, Lakemont, died Tuesday, November 29, 2016, at her residence.

She was born December 19, 1920, in Altoona, daughter of the late Charles and Ada Mae (Biser) Diehl. In 1939, she married Paul R. Oakes in Winchester, Va., and he preceded her in death in 1972 after 33 years of marriage.

Surviving are a daughter, Cindy DeLorenzo (Leo) of State College; two sons: Dale R. of Hanover, and Robert P. (Janice) of State College; eight grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by two sisters: Evelyn Sloey and Florine Youngkin; and a brother, Harry.          

Peg retired from Mid-Atlantic Asset Management Co. after 21 years of service, and then worked at Mason’s Dept. Store and as a teacher’s aide for the IU8.

She was a 69-year member of First Church of God, Lakemont, where she formerly taught Sunday school and held various church positions. She recently attended Hollidaysburg Church of the Brethren.

She enjoyed making beautiful crafts. She also enjoyed being an original member of the Silver Sneakers at the Hollidaysburg YMCA and spending time with her family.

Friends will be received from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. Saturday, December 3, 2016, at Hollidaysburg Church of the Brethren, where a funeral service will follow at 11:00 a.m., Pastors Marlys Hershbarger and Mark A. Rhodes officiating. Interment will be at Alto-Reste Park. Arrangements are by Sorge Funeral Home Inc., Hollidaysburg.
