April 7, 1924-June 6, 2017
Nancy Spencer Hunter, 93, Presbyterian Village, Hollidaysburg,
formerly of Glen Rock, New Jersey, passed away Tuesday evening at the
home.
She was born in Ridgewood, New Jersey, daughter of Horace and Helen
(Shepherd) Spencer. On June 17, 1944, she married Maxwell White Hunter
II of Hollidaysburg. They divorced in 1962; he preceded her in death
on November 10, 2001.
Surviving are younger brother Charles Spencer of New Holland, PA;
cousin Mary Goodnow White of Edgecomb, ME; sons Max and David of
Hollidaysburg, Matthew of San Francisco, CA, and daughter Peggy Norman
of Rogue River, OR; five grandchildren: Nathan Hunter and Leah Haslam
of Hollidaysburg, Cyndy Shafer of Petaluma, CA, Samantha Wiley of
Milwaukee, WI, and Mackenzie Wiley of Whitewater, WI; four
great-grandchildren: Anna and Alice Haslam of Hollidaysburg, Derrick
and Bryce Nelson of Petaluma, CA; a niece, three nephews, 6
grandnieces and 3 grandnephews. Daughter Sally Wiley of Evanston, IL,
passed away in 2014.
Nancy graduated from Ridgewood High School and attended Emerson
College in Boston, MA. She moved to Venice, CA, in 1944 with husband
Max, who became a prominent aerospace engineer. She lived in Santa
Monica and Encino, CA; Boulder City, NV, Damariscotta, ME, and Palm
Desert, CA, before moving to Hollidaysburg in 2001.
She traveled in her later years to Venice, Italy, and twice to Egypt.
She loved Scottish terriers, history and art books, movies and TV
shows, baseball and protecting wildlife and the environment. She
donated money to and was a member of many organizations.
