Robert G. ‘PapaBob’ Claar

July 14, 1956 - Oct. 10, 2016

Robert G. Claar, 60, went home to be with the Lord on Monday afternoon at Altoona Center for Nursing Care due to a pulmonary embolism.

He was born in Altoona, son of the late Homer A. and Frances J. (Lickel) Claar. He married Sandra J. Hazlett in 1976.

Surviving are his mother; his wife of 40 years; two daughters: Autumn D. of Petersburg, Va., and Amber D. of Hollidaysburg; a son, Austin C. of Duncansville; a granddaughter, Harlee J.; two foster granddaughters: Victoria R. Dalton and Lacey “Jane” Flanagan; two sisters: Judy A. Miller of Hagerstown, Md., and Diane Lambe of Woodburg Pike; and two brothers: Richard A. and Timothy D. (Michelle), both of Altoona.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Bonnie L. (Donald L.) Snyder.

Bob was a 1975 graduate of Hollidaysburg High School. He retired as a locomotive engineer with Norfolk Southern Railroad after 39 years of service. He enjoyed working and playing with computers, woodworking, trains and his cat, K.C. Mae. He was a brain cancer survivor and had recently started his battle with rectal cancer.

He was a member of and faithfully attended Berean Baptist Church, Duncansville, with his family and his nephew, Mason A. Hazlett. Bob’s favorite Bible verse was Romans 12:1, 2.

Friends will be received from 5 to 6 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 15, 2016, at Berean Baptist Church, 2465 Mill Road, Duncansville, where a memorial service will be held after, Pastor Barry Fry will officiating. Arrangements are by Sorge Funeral Home Inc., Hollidaysburg

In lieu of flowers, contributions in Bob’s memory may be sent to Berean Baptist Church.
