Russell E. Yon Sr.

Russell E. Yon Sr., 84, Lakemont, died Sunday morning at the Lutheran Home at Hollidaysburg.

He was born in Altoona, son of James Henry and Clarabell (Manges) Yon. He married Evelyn R. Broadrick on July 28, 1950, in St. Mark’s Catholic Church, Altoona.

Surviving are his wife, with whom he shared 66 years of marriage; a daughter, Pauline M. Myers and husband, Gerald, of Altoona; three grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and two sisters: Doris Jenkins and Patricia McGinnis, both of Altoona.

He was preceded in death by a son, Russell E. Jr., on Oct. 31, 2002; a granddaughter, Wendy Jo Roth; and 13 siblings.

Russell retired from Berwind Railways, Hollidaysburg, as a welder. He served in the U.S. Army Reserves.

He was an avid gardener and enjoyed fishing, playing the guitar and auto mechanics.

Friends will be received from 5 to 6 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 21, 2017, at Sorge Funeral Home Inc., Hollidaysburg, immediately followed by a funeral service by Pastor Mark A. Rhodes.

Interment will be at Calvary Cemetery, Altoona.
