Tom J. Merritts

Tom J. Merritts, 59, Lantana, Fla., formerly of Hollidaysburg, passed away Saturday, February 17, 2018,  at UPMC Altoona, after an extended illness.

He was born August 24, 1958, in Altoona, son of James and Gertrude "Kay" (Helsel) Merritts.

Surviving are his girlfriend, Lynn Petrillo of Lantana, Fla.; two sons: Brian and Brandon, both of Boca Raton, Fla.; his mother, Kay of Hollidaysburg; a sister, Brenda Merritts of Altoona; two brothers: Brian and Troy Merritts, both of Altoona; numerous nieces and nephews; and his beloved cat, Bebes.          

He was preceded in death by his father, James.

Tom graduated from Hollidaysburg Area High School, Class of 1976. He was employed for 17 years as a driver for FedEx. He was a member of Grace Community Church in Boca Raton, Fla.           

He enjoyed spending time with his sons and was an avid sports fan; his favorite teams were Penn State Football and Duke Basketball.

Friends will be received from 2:00 to 4:00 and 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Thursday, February 22, 2018, at Sorge Funeral Home Inc., Hollidaysburg, where a funeral service will be held at 8:00 p.m. Thursday, the Reverend Jaime G. Olson officiating. Interment will be at New Canoe Creek Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Hollidaysburg Area YMCA, 1111 Hewit St., Hollidaysburg, PA 16648.
