Thomas G. Baker, 79, of Hollidaysburg, passed away Saturday at UPMC Altoona. He was born in Hollidaysburg, son of the late William J. and Marie (Leap) Baker.

Surviving are two sisters: Patricia M. of Hollidaysburg and Teresa L. in DE; four brothers: Francis J. in TX, James W. in FL, Raymond J. of Hollidaysburg, and Joseph M. of Waynesboro.

He was preceded in death by four brothers: Edward R., John F., Philip J., Charles A.; and a sister, Margaret A. Hart.

Tom graduated from Hollidaysburg High School in 1962 and earned a BA from Penn State in 1996.

He served in the US Air Force from 1962 to 1992. Tom served many years overseas in Italy, Misawa Japan, and Germany. He earned certification in the cryptologic training system from NSA and retired after 30 years of service.

Tom was an active member of the Air Force Association. He was Secretary and Treasurer of the PA State AFA and was named Man of the Year in 2002.

Tom was a lifelong member of St. Michael Catholic Church and devoted many years of service to Greenlawn Cemetery, Barbara Zanker Fund, and Vocations Committee. In 2015, Tom received the Prince Gallitzin Cross Award in recognition for his many years of service and ministry in the Church.

He volunteered with Relay for Life over 15 years and held many extra fundraisers to support the goals for the American Cancer Society, and won the 2014 Volunteer of the Year Award.

Friends will be received from 10am to 12 noon Wednesday April 10, 2024, at St. Michael Catholic Church, where a funeral Mass will immediately follow at 12pm with Fr. Alan E. Thomas, Celebrant. Full military honors will follow the Mass.

Private Committal at Calvary Cemetery.
