Anne Katherine "Betty" (Kenner) Madden, 100, Hollidaysburg, died peacefully on Thursday, at the home of her daughter, Linda.
She was born on Thanksgiving Day in Coupon, to Henry C. and Lorna D. (Paterson) Kenner. On June 10, 1944, she married Patrick D. Madden in Jacksonville, Fla., and he preceded her in death on September 8, 1990.
Surviving are eight children: Terry (Linda) of Mount Pleasant, Linda (Andrew) Kittell of Portage, Ellen (Paul) Hartle of Bellefonte, Dennis of Key West, Fla., David (Karen) of Winter Park, Fla., Wayne (Cathy) of Hollidaysburg, Timothy (Roseann) of Hollidaysburg, and Kathy Marshall of Mineral Point; 14 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law, Betty Kenner and Cecelia Madden; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by three brothers:Henry C., Leroy and Malcolm Kenner; two sisters: Isabel Kenner and Elizabeth Paterson; and three brothers-in-law: Timothy, Andrew and Michael Madden.
Betty was a 1935 graduate of Altoona High School and attended Indiana State Teachers College. Prior to starting her family, she taught elementary grades in Spindley City, Amsbry and Coupon
She enjoyed tending to her flowers and plants around her house. For many years, Betty enjoyed playing bingo with her friends. She corresponded faithfully with family and friends, in her perfect penmanship.
Betty was a generous and loving mother and grandmother, who always maintained a positive outlook on life.
Friends will be received from noon to 2:00 p.m. Saturday, October 20, 2018, at Sorge Funeral Home Inc., Hollidaysburg, where a funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday. Interment will be at Greenlawn Cemetery.
