Betty M. Claar, 98, formerly of Blue Knob, died Thursday at The Village at Morrisons Cove.
She was born in Blue Knob, daughter of the late Frank and Jennie (Over) Ritchey. In 1942, she married Taylor D. Claar at Mount Moriah Church, and he preceded her in death in 2007 after sharing 65 years of marriage.
Surviving are two daughters: Nancy Detwiler and husband, Larry, of Bellwood, and Gail Behe of Cresson; two sons: Dennis and wife, Anna, in Delaware, and Barry and wife, Debbie, of Mechanicsburg; nine grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and two brothers: Thomas of Hollidaysburg, and Ted of Blue Knob.
She was preceded in death by four brothers: Hamilton, Jack, Harold and Dahl; and a son-in-law, Kenneth.
Betty was a 1935 graduate of Portage High School. She spent her life as a homemaker and was a member of Mount Sinai God's Missionary Church, Blue Knob.
She was a former pianist and organist, and she was involved in children's ministries at her former churches. She loved gardening, and her beautiful flowers were admired by many.
Friends will be received from 2:00 to 4:00 and 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Monday, November 13, 2017, at Sorge Funeral Home Inc., Hollidaysburg. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, November 14, 2017, at Mount Sinai God's Missionary Church, Blue Knob. Interment will be at Mount Moriah Cemetery.
