Carl R. Whiteman, 85, Hollidaysburg, died Tuesday at Maybrook Hills Rehabilitation and Healthcare Center.
He was born in Pittsburgh, son of Roberta Dively who died when he was a child. He was raised by the late Carl and Catherine Meller. He married Ruth F. Davison in 1975, and she preceded him in death in 2013.
Surviving are two sons: Robert R. of Cresson, and John R. and wife, Laura, in Florida; and a grandson, Alex.
Carl served in the U.S. Navy during multiple campaigns. He retired from the Merchant Marines as a Chief Engineering Officer.
He was a 50 plus year member of the Logan Lodge 490 F&AM; AASR Valley of Altoona; a York Rite Mason; a member of the Jaffa Shrine in the Motor Corps; and a member of the Chief Logan Forest 131 Tall Cedars of Lebanon. He was also a member of First Presbyterian Church, Hollidaysburg.
Carl enjoyed seeing the smiles on childrens' faces during parades with the Jaffa Motor Corps. He also enjoyed hunting and practicing the teachings of Freemasonry.
Friends will be received from 10:00 a.m. to noon Saturday, October 12, 2019, at Sorge Funeral Home & Crematory Inc., Hollidaysburg, where a funeral service will immediately follow at noon. Interment will be at Alto-Reste Park.
