David Nelson Dodson ("Spigot" or "Abe"), 81, of Duncansville, was born June 9, 1938, the first of nine children, to Nelson L. and Blanche O. (Johnston) Dodson.
On January 28, 1961, he married Kathryn "Katie" Shubert. They are the parents of three children: Deborah Ann Fox of Port Matilda, and David Allen and Susan Kay Dodson of Duncansville.
Mr. Dodson is survived by five brothers: Donald (Zenith), Ronald (Joan), Richard (Carol), Paul (Linda), and Randy (Judy), a sister, Paulette (Charles) Clapper, six grandchildren: Bryan (Michele), Alex and Cory Fox, Tara Lynn McKee, and Spencer and Shane Dodson; ten great-grandchildren; and a brother-in-law, Michael Shubert.
He was preceded in death by two sisters: Star Joy (1976) and Virginia "Sis" Hann (2018).
David graduated from Hollidaysburg Area High School in 1957. While in school, he lettered in wrestling 3 years Varsity and football 2 years Varsity. He also received the Hollidaysburg Outstanding Senior Athlete in 1957. After graduation, he attended Shippensburg College for two years, where he took third place in wrestling at the Shippensburg State Wrestling Conference.
David worked for PennDOT District 9-0 from 1959 until 1992, retiring as a bridge foreman with 42 years of service. He then worked for Jackson Hewitt for 10 years.
David enjoyed hunting at the camp on Locke Mountain with his son, grandson, great-grandson, and brother. In 2000, after having a heart attack, he scored a triple trophy, which is a turkey, six-point buck, and a black bear.
Friends will be received at Sorge Funeral Home and Crematory Inc. from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., on Tuesday, November 26, 2019, and from 10:00 to the 11:00 a.m. funeral service, Wednesday, November 27, 2019, with Pastor William Gualdoni presiding.
Interment will be at Blair Memorial Park, Bellwood.
