Donald W. Griffith

Donald W. Griffith, 88, Hollidaysburg, died Tuesday at the Hollidaysburg Veterans Home. 

He was born in Johnstown, son of the late Martin and Mary (Hemminger) Griffith. He married Anna K. Keafer in 1953, and she preceded him in death in 2016.

Surviving are two daughters: Jean Hoover and husband, Timothy, in North Carolina, and Barbara Mattern and husband, Kenneth, of Hollidaysburg; a daughter-in-law, Cathy (Betar) Griffith of Hollidaysburg; seven grandchildren; two great-grandsons; one great-granddaughter; a sister-in-law, Shirley Griffith; and a brother-in-law, Robert Lehman.

He was preceded in death by a son, Gregory; a sister, Evelyn Lehman; and two brothers: Fred and William.

Donald graduated from Connemaugh Township High School in 1950. He served as Corporal in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. Donald was a meat department manager for Weis Market for 36 years, retiring in 1993. 

He was a member of Newry Lutheran Church, where he formerly served on the Church Council. He also was a member of the Newry Lions Club and Jayco Camping Club. 

Donald enjoyed camping, traveling and fishing.

The family would like to thank the staff of the Hollidaysburg Veterans Home and Asera Care Hospice.

Friends will be received from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday, June 8, 2019, at Sorge Funeral Home & Crematory Inc., Hollidaysburg, where a funeral service will follow at noon, Pastor Richard Henry officiating. Interment with full military honors will be held at New Canoe Creek Cemetery.
