Elmer J. Johnson, 84, Turkey Valley, went home to be with his Lord and Savior, whom he loved and served, on Monday, July 8, 2019.
He was born January 17, 1935, at home in Juniata, son of the late William and Loretta (Kehler) Johnson. He was first married to Mona L. Stiffler, who preceded him in death in 1993. He then married Beverly Wagner in 1994.
Surviving are his loving wife of 25 years; a daughter, Dee A. Cherry and husband, Donald, of Scotch Valley; a son, Alan J. and wife, Bobbi Jo, of Turkey Valley; a stepson, Randy Wagner and wife, Pam, of Altoona; 22 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; and two step sons-in-law: John Keller of Sinking Valley and Mark Miller of Tipton.
He was preceded in death by two brothers: Earl and Robert; and three step daughters: Lori Keller, Lindy Wagner and Wendie Miller.
Elmer graduated from Altoona High School in 1953. He retired as a yard master from Conrail in 1989 after more than 30 years of service.
He was a charter member of Altoona Bible Church, where for many years he served as head of the Deacon board, an usher and many other functions.
Elmer loved camping, traveling and spending winters in Florida. He also enjoyed spending time with his friends and family.
Friends will be received from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday, July 11, 2019, and from 10 to 11 a.m. Friday, all at the Altoona Bible Church, where a funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Pastor Stewart W. McClelland officiating. Interment will be at New Canoe Creek Cemetery.
