Fred Wood McGee Jr., 83, Hollidaysburg, went home to be with the Lord Tuesday following an extended illness.
He was born in Hollidaysburg, son of the late Fred W. Sr. and Ettie V. (Helsel) McGee. He married Patricia Ann Teeter in 1957.
Surviving are his wife of 62 years; two daughters: Kelly (Randy) VanOrman of Port Matilda and Tracy Coffman of Hollidaysburg; two sons: Neil A. of Pittsburgh and Christopher A. (Tammy) in New Jersey; seven grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; a brother, Paul E. (Nancy) in Maryland; many nieces, nephews and cousins; his best friend, Barry Claar; and his family from the farm.
He was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Veronica; a grandson, Sgt. Timothy VanOrman; three siblings: Mary Ellen Ebersole, Leona Rosser and Sheldon; a son-in-law, Donald Coffman; and his friend, Jay Lenhart.
Fred graduated from Hollidaysburg High School in 1953. He was a manager for A&P Grocery and Riverside, retiring in 1998 after more than 40 years of service. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict
He was a life member of First United Methodist Church of Hollidaysburg, where he was a member of Men's Breakfast Club and an usher.
Fred enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, and his dog, Piper, hunting and fishing.
A memorial service with military honors will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 15, 2019, at First UMC of Hollidaysburg. Inurnment will be at Greenlawn Cemetery. Arrangements are by Sorge Funeral Home & Crematory Inc., Hollidaysburg.
