Fred C. Hertel, 79, Hollidaysburg, passed away Wednesday at UPMC after a brief illness. Nancy L. (White) Hertel, 79, of Hollidaysburg, passed away Wednesday at UPMC Altoona after a courageous battle with cancer.
He was born in Altoona, son of the late Lawrence and Grace (Cowan) Hertel. She was born in Williamsburg, daughter of the late Talmage and Edna (Evans) White. Fred and Nancy married in 1963.
Surviving are a son, Tim, and wife Tracie in Ohio; four grandchildren: Patrick, Ashlee, Tori and Tara; a great-grandson, Michael; her sister, Sharon Malone and husband, Bill, of Williamsburg; her two brothers: Terry White and wife, Cheryl, of Williamsburg, and Duane White and wife, Lee, of Clearfield; his cousin, Bill Hertel in Flinton; and her brother-in-law, Don Shanholtz of Williamsburg.
They were preceded in death by a son, Michael in 2014; and Nancy’s sister, Norma Jean; and her brother, Sonny.
Fred graduated from Hollidaysburg High School and retired from WTAJ as a production technician. He then worked for Hines Feed Store in Hollidaysburg. He served in the National Guard, and was a member of the Williamsburg Christian and Missionary Alliance Church. He enjoyed traveling with his wife and watching the Steelers.
Nancy graduated from Williamsburg High School and she retired from Mercy Hospital as a nurse. She was member of Williamsburg Christian and Missionary Alliance Church, where she was very active as a Sunday school teacher, nursery aide and a volunteer at Mahaffey camp. She enjoyed traveling, flower gardening, and helping others.
Friends will be received from 4 to 6 p.m. Sunday, April 29, 2018, at Sorge Funeral Home Inc., Hollidaysburg, and from 10 to 11 a.m. Monday, April 30, 2018, at the Williamsburg Christian and Missionary Alliance Church, where a funeral service will follow at 11 a.m. with Pastor Paul R. Campbell officiating. Interment will be at Greenlawn Cemetery.
