Homer F. Hoover Jr., 83, Hollidaysburg, died Saturday, November 11, 2017, at UPMC Altoona after a brief illness.
He was born April 17, 1934, in Cross Keys, son of the late Homer F. Sr. and Flora (Bailey) Hoover. He was twice married, first to Shirley Hanks who preceded him in death. On November 26, 1982, he married Denise R. (Moudy) Cameron in Altoona.
Surviving are his wife of 34 years; two daughters: Tami L. Johnson and husband, Charles, of Duncansville and Michele E. Zorger of Youngstown, Ohio; a stepson whom he helped raise, Clay Daniel Cameron and wife, Shannon; eight grandchildren: Zachary and Matthew Johnson, Tasha and Raechel Zorger, Adam Carr, Sela, Daniel and Cagney Cameron; five great-grandchildren: Ryan, Mason, Gage and Alexis Johnson and Kylah Helscel; a brother, Galen E. and wife, Dawn, of Altoona; and three sisters: F. Yvonne Richter of Altoona, Virgie K. Lewis of Memphis, Tenn., and Cleone F. Chan-King and husband, Michael, in the Netherlands.
He was preceded in death by an infant sister, Beverly Ann.
He was a 1952 graduate of Hollidaysburg High School and was a U.S. Army veteran, serving post-Korean Conflict as a medic. He retired as an auditor from A & P, and later retired from Ansley & Lewis. He worked for the Sheetz Corporation until the age of 80. He was a member of Carson Valley Church of the Brethren.
Homer enjoyed model cars.
Friends will be received from 1:00 to 3:00 and 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Tuesday, November 14, 2017, at Sorge Funeral Home Inc., Hollidaysburg, and from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, November 15, 2017, at Carson Valley Church of the Brethren, immediately followed by the 11:00 a.m. funeral service, Pastor Bradley R. Runkle, officiating. Interment will be at Carson Valley Cemetery.
