James R. Mattingly, 86, Altoona, passed away Monday at UPMC Altoona.
He was born in Altoona, son of the late James C. and Helen (Holliday) Mattingly. He married Margaret Conroy in 1960.
Surviving are his wife of 58 years; a daughter, Sharon Lynn of Mifflintown; a son, Robert J. of Altoona; two grandchildren; three sisters: Patricia A. Hayes, Nancy J. Herzog, and Deborah L. Scherman, all of Lakemont; also surviving are nieces and nephews; and a sister-in-law, Molly Shep.
He was preceded in death by a brother, William, in 2002.
James was a 1950 graduate of Hollidaysburg High School and retired from the City of Altoona as a Foreman Mechanic. He served in the U.S. Army and was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Altoona. He enjoyed walking.
Friends will be received from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Thursday, August 16, 2018, at Sorge Funeral Home Inc., Hollidaysburg, where a vigil service will be held. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. Friday, August 17, 2018, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Altoona, Father Lubomir Strecok officiating. Committal will be at Blair Memorial Park.
