John J. Barroner
January 3, 1944 ~ June 28, 2017 (age 73) 73 Years OldJohn J. Barroner, 73, Hollidaysburg, passed away Wednesday morning, June 28, 2017, at UPMC Altoona.
He was born January 3, 1944, in Altoona, son of the late Harry E. and Mildred (Endress) Barroner.
Surviving are four daughters: Margaret "Peggy" Frye and husband, Rob, and Robin Farabaugh and husband, Wayne, all of Blue Knob, Lynn Johnson and husband, Scott, of Port Matilda, and Kimberly Auker of Altoona; 13 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and three siblings: Mary Cooper and Charles R., both of Hollidaysburg, and Merril of Bellwood.
He was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Emma Auker; three brothers: June, Albert and Francis "Whitey"; and two sisters: Betty E. Murtagh and infant Adeline.
John served with the Army National Guard of Pennsylvania during the Vietnam Conflict. He retired as a locomotive engineer from Millennium Railway, Hollidaysburg, after 25 years of service.
He was a member of the Allegheny Club, Sons of the American Legion and Free Spirit Motorcycle Club. He enjoyed hunting, riding his motorcycle, scratching lottery tickets and bowling, and he was an avid movie and TV buff.
At John's request, there will be no viewing. Friends will be received from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. Sunday, July 2, 2017, at Sorge Funeral Home Inc., Hollidaysburg, where a memorial service will be held immediately after at 2:00 p.m., the Rev. Elizabeth Hess officiating. Military honors will be provided by Blair County Veterans Honor Guard. Interment will be at Geeseytown Cemetery.
