John E. Lennox

John E. Lennox, 75 of Altoona, passed away Friday, September 1, 2017 at Hillview, Altoona.

He was born October 17, 1941 in Parkersburg, WV, son of the late Andrew and Muriel (Norton) Lennox.

John married Arlene R. Abel, May 13, 1972 in York, PA.

Surviving are his wife with whom he shared 45  years of marriage; a daughter, Emily K. Lennox of San Francisco; a son, Colin A. Lennox of Altoona; a brother, Robert W. and wife, Joanne, of Severna Park, MD; a niece, Kelly Lennox of Baltimore and a nephew, Scott A. Lennox of Fairfax, VA.

John was a graduate of Jenner-Boswell Joint High School, Boswell, PA, class of 1959; Indiana University of PA in 1963; University of Chicago in 1965 with a masters degree and then in 1968 with a PhD in Botany.  He taught at Penn State University from 1968-1971 and then at PSU, Altoona Camus from 1971-2003 as a professor of microbiology.

John was a member of the Juniata Valley Audubon Society; and was an Eagle Scout Scout Master, Troop 117.

He enjoyed travel; ballroom dancing; natural history; drawing and water color painting and SCUBA diving.

There will be no public viewing or funeral service.
