Joseph R. Nedimyer, 91, Hollidaysburg, passed away Thursday at the Hollidaysburg Veterans Home.
He was born in Altoona, son of the late Walter and Anna (Wogan) Nedimyer. He married MaryEllen Luke in 1953.
Surviving are his wife of 66 years; seven daughters: Joellen Sage and husband, Ted, in Florida, Linda Mckernan and husband, Mike, of Altoona, Susan McCrea and husband, Sam, in Virginia, Gloria Reffner and husband, Wade, of Bedford, Christine Middelton and husband, Brian, of Altoona, Coleen Wolfe and husband, Paul, of Hollidaysburg, and Rosemary Nedimyer of Erie; a son, Raymond J. and wife, Jacquie, of Altoona; 21 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; three siblings: Joyce Lightner, John and James; and the special nurses and aides at the Hollidaysburg Veterans Home, who Joe was very thankful and fond of.
He was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Chrystal Lynn; a daughter, Carol Martin; a granddaughter, Jennifer; two sisters: Julia Waite and Janet McNelis; and a brother, Jay.
Joe graduated from Bellwood-Antis High School in 1947, and served in the U.S. Army from 1950-52 in Germany. He was the founder of Chimrock Studios and was also a dispatcher for Emergency Services.
Joe was a former Boy Scout Executive for the Indian Rock District. He was a life-member of the Phoenix Volunteer Fire Department and a member of the Hollidaysburg Ambulance Service, where he formerly served as president of the board. Joe also served as captain of the Hollidaysburg Auxiliary Police and was a member of St. Michael Catholic Church, Hollidaysburg, where he served as an usher.
Friends will be received from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 26, 2019, at Sorge Funeral Home Inc., Hollidaysburg, where the Phoenix Fire Department will conduct a fireman's service at 7 p.m. with the funeral service to follow on Tuesday. Committal will be at Blair Memorial Park, Bellwood.
