Lloyd R. Bridenbaugh, 85, Altoona, formerly of Duncansville, died Monday, November 13, 2017, at Altoona Center for Nursing Care.

He was born March 16, 1932, in Roaring Spring, son of the late Helen Jarrett, who preceded him in death in 1941. He was raised by his aunt and foster mother, Mrs. Frank Russell. He married B. Lillian “Mickey” Specht on July 12, 1979 in Winchester, Va and she preceded him in death after 34 years of marriage on Aug. 3, 2013.

Surviving are two step-daughters: Dawn Sturgill of Altoona and Pamela Aungst of Hollidaysburg; five grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

He was a Corporal in the U.S. Army having served during the Korean conflict. Lloyd, then a Private, sent a moving letter to his foster mother regarding his major combat injuries he had received during a late night attack by the Chinese. That same letter was published in the Cove Herald on August 13, 1953, and was titled “But When Morning Came, The Hill Was Still Ours.”  Lloyd was awarded the Purple Heart.

Friends will be received from 11:00 a.m. until the 1:00 p.m. funeral service Monday, November 20, 2017, at Sorge Funeral Home Inc., Hollidaysburg. Internment with military honors will be held at Fairview Cemetery, Martinsburg.
