Lois J. (Fry) Mielnik, 65, Hollidaysburg, passed away Wednesday at her residence, with her family by her side, after a courageous battle with cancer.
She was born in Altoona, daughter of the late Fred and Jean (Riley) Fry. She married Raymond Mielnik in 1983.
Surviving are her husband of 35 years; a daughter, Maria J. Thaler and husband, Brian, of State College; two sons: Ralph of Pittsburgh, and Fred and wife, Jessica, of Hollidaysburg; two grandchildren: Isabelle and Wesley; and two sisters: Cheryl Evans of State College and Susan Isley of Burlington, N.C.
Lois graduated from Williamsburg Area High School in 1970 and the Altoona School of Nursing. She worked as a nurse for the Veteran’s Administration in Altoona, Pittsburgh and Durham, N.C., from 1980-1985 . She also was employed at Penn State Altoona in Continuing Education from 1999-2013 where she was active with administration and students.
She was a woman of deep faith and a very active member of St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church. Lois's true passion, her pride and joy, was caring for her family. Her husband, children and grandchildren were her greatest treasures. Lois will be fondly remembered by family and friends for her selflessness and strength. In her spare time, she enjoyed cooking and being a proud “Mimi” to her young grandchildren.
Friends will be received from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, Aug. 10, 2018, at Sorge Funeral Home Inc., Hollidaysburg. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 11, 2018, at St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church, Hollidaysburg, Monsignor Stanley Carson celebrating. Committal will be at Greenlawn Cemetery.
