Marcellus James “Marcy” Criste, 81, Hollidaysburg, passed away Friday, December 22, 2017, at Van Zandt VA Medical Center.

He was born January 16, 1936, in Altoona, son of the late Joseph A. and Madeline (Sutton) Criste. He married Alma D. Long on July 22, 1957, in Winchester, Va., with whom he shared 57 years of marriage until her death on February 8, 2015.

Surviving are a daughter, Lisa M. Criste of Hollidaysburg; two sons: Barry J. and wife, Deborah and Brian J. and wife, Brenda, all of Altoona; seven grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; a sister, Carol Ann in Maryland; three brothers: C. Kenneth of State College; Bert and Richard, both in Maryland.

He was preceded in death by four siblings: Harold, Dolores Miller Filer, Russell and Ronald.

Marcy was a 1954 graduate of Hollidaysburg High School and attended Shippensburg University.

Marcy was a U.S. Army veteran, having served during the Korean Conflict.  He was a Quartermaster Supply Specialist and was awarded the Sharpshooter (rifle) medal. 

He retired as a road inspector from Pellegrine Engineering and previously worked for A&P Food for fifteen years.

He attended St. John’s Reformed Church, Hollidaysburg and was a former member of St. Michael’s Catholic Church, Hollidaysburg.

Marcy was a Third Degree member Knights of Columbus, Star of the Sea Council 4245 and of the Fort Fetter American Legion Post No. 516.

He coached little league for the Hollidaysburg Lion’s Club and served two terms as a Hollidaysburg Borough councilman.

He enjoyed spending time with his family and working in his vegetable garden; watching the Pittsburgh Pirates and Steelers.

Friends will be received from 2:00 to 4:00 and 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday, December 27, 2017, at Sorge Funeral Home Inc., Hollidaysburg, and from 10:00 until the 11:00 a.m. funeral service Thursday, December 28, at St. John’s Reformed Church, Hollidaysburg, the Reverend William L. Zimmerman officiating. Immediately following, at the church, military honors performed by the Blair County Veterans Honor Guard. Interment will follow at Alto-Reste Park.
