Paul E. Svitana, 88, East Freedom, went to be with the Lord on Saturday at Conemaugh Nason Medical Center, Roaring Spring.
He was born in Six Mile Run, son of the late Andy and Elizabeth (Majoros) Svitana. He was married to Bernice A. (Elder) Svitana, and she preceded him in death Jan. 19, 2014.
Surviving are a daughter, Denise Roudabush and husband, Ira; three sons: Stephen and wife, Jamie, of East Freedom, Kevin and wife, Christine, in Ohio, and Aaron and wife, Kim, in California; nine grandchildren: April (Andrew) Fencil, Sean (Brittany) Svitana, Jeremy (Maggie) Svitana, Dustin Roudabush (Jim Jardina) and Abigail, Madeline, Joseph, Samuel and Jacob Svitana; three great-grandchildren: Amelia, Eli and Claire Svitana; his companion, Patty Robinson; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by six siblings: Ann, John, Susie, Jake, Mary and Rose.
Paul graduated in 1949 from Robert P. Smith High School in Hopewell Township. He retired in 1992 from Appleton Papers Inc., after nearly 37 years of service.
He was an active member of St. Patrick Catholic Church, Newry, where he served as a Eucharistic minister and faithful volunteer.
Paul's passion was farming.
Friends will be received from 2:00 to 4:00 and 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Friday, January 24, 2020, at Sorge Funeral Home & Crematory Inc., Hollidaysburg, where a vigil service will be held. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, January 25, 2020, at St. Patrick Catholic Church, Newry, by Father Allen P. Zeth. Committal will be at Old St. Patrick Cemetery, Newry.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to St. Patrick's Church Building Fund.
