Phyllis (Keith) Schaner, 78, Carson Valley, passed away early Wednesday morning, May 9, 2018, at her residence after an extended illness.
She was born July 20, 1939, in Cumberland, Md., daughter of the late Melvin M. and Dorothy (Turnbaugh) Keith. In 1963, she married Bruce H. Schaner in Chambersburg.
Surviving are her husband of 55 years, Bruce; a daughter, Pamela S. Gibson and husband, Michael, of Kitty Hawk, N.C.; a son, Keith E. of Carson Valley; two grandsons: Andrew J. Schaner and Aaron Tyler Mentzer; a brother, Rodney L. Keith and a sister-in-law, Barbara C. Keith, both of Huntingdon.
She was preceded in death by a brother, Edward M. Keith; and a nephew, Christopher D. Keith.
Phyllis was a 1957 graduate of Chambersburg High School, and a 1961 graduate of Shippensburg University. Upon graduation, she taught elementary school in Waynesboro. She kept the books for her husband’s business, Central PA Roofing and Supply, retiring in 2000.
Owing to her quick wit and curious mind, Phyllis was a lover of books, classical music, good conversation, and most of all, a good joke. As someone who appreciated the outdoors, she enjoyed gardening, spending time at her family’s cottage and especially enjoyed swimming and canoeing. Above all, she enjoyed spending time with her loved ones and her devoted black lab, Pepper.
Phyllis was a beloved wife, mother grandmother and sister, and she will be sadly missed by all who knew her well.
Friends will be received from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. Tuesday, May 15, 2018, at Sorge Funeral Home Inc., Hollidaysburg.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the American Diabetes Association, diabetes.org or a charity of your choice.
