Shirley A. (Barnes) Tate, 84, Hollidaysburg, died Tuesday, April 16, 2019, at Maybrook Hills Rehabilitation and Healthcare Center, after a long duration with Alzheimer's disease, with her husband by her side.
She was born January 17, 1935, in Blue Knob, daughter of the late Theodore and Sarah (Berkhimer) Barnes. She married John L. Tate in 1957, in Claysburg.
Surviving are her husband of 62 years; a daughter, Jennifer L. Tate and wife, Karla; a son, David J. and wife, Christine; four grandchildren: Sarah, Eva, Ainsley and Paxton; three sisters: Louise Smith and husband, George, Genevieve, and Barbara Renner and husband, Gary; and three brothers: Robert Barnes and wife, Sally, Leroy Barnes and wife, Judy, and Barry Barnes and wife, Cathy.
She was preceded in death by a brother-in-law, Gerald Robine.
Shirley was a graduate of Claysburg High School 1952, and a 1956 graduate of Altoona Hospital School of Nursing, where she received her registered nursing degree. In 1960, she received her Bachelor of Science Degree of Nursing from IUP. She retired as a RN, working in private duty and as the Altoona Vo-Tech school nurse.
She was a former member of the Hollidaysburg OES Chapter 471. She was a member of Zion Lutheran Church, Hollidaysburg, where she was a Sunday school teacher, and participated in many activities. Shirley will be remembered for her passion to take good care of others.
Friends will be received from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. Saturday, May 4, 2019, at Zion Lutheran Church, Hollidaysburg, where a memorial service will follow at 11:00 a.m.
