Steven J. Chew, 70, Altoona, formerly of Iowa, passed away Saturday at his residence.
He was born in Council Bluffs, Iowa, son of the late James and Lillian (Wram) Chew. He married Susan Barr in 1990.
Surviving are his wife of 29 years; four daughters: Tanya in North Carolina, Trina in Colorado, Becky Bettwy and husband, Scott, of Duncansville and Stacie Bailey and husband, Keith, of Newry; two sons: Travis and wife, Lori, in Colorado, and Kenny Smith and wife, Jayme, in Florida; nine grandchildren: Katie, Dianna, Justin, Noah, Elli, Kyle, Benjamin, Anna and Elijah; and a brother, Bill in Colorado.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Judy.
Steve served in the U.S. Navy during Vietnam and was employed by F.L. Smithe as a machinist before going back to school. He graduated from Mount Aloysius with a Bachelor of Science in nuclear medicine and retired from Western Maryland Health System.
He enjoyed attending his grandchildren's sporting events.
Friends will be received from 10:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, May 7, 2019, at Sorge Funeral Home & Crematory Inc., where a memorial service will follow at 1:00 p.m., Pastor Jeremiah Baker officiating.
