Barbara J. Bathie Schmidhamer, 87, of Hollidaysburg passed away Wednesday. She was born in Pittsburgh, daughter of the late Roy and Violet (Davies) Thomas. She married Frederick Schmidhamer in 1984, who preceded her in death in 1995 after sharing 11 years of marriage.
Surviving are two daughters: Donna Duncan (John) and Amy Bathie (Doug Egan); four grandchildren: Lance (Brian), Megan, Rachel, and Grant (Kate); a great-grandson, Judson; and two nieces: Cindy and Lynne; and a nephew, Fred.
She was preceded in death by a son, George “Scott” Bathie and a sister, Nancy Fochtman.
Barb was a 1956 graduate of Bethel Park High School, and a 1959 graduate of Shadyside Hospital School of Nursing, and earned her BSN.
She worked for 24 years as the Assistant Director of Nursing and retired as the Care Plan Coordinator at Valley View Home after 7 years.
Barb was a former member of Hicks Church, and was a volunteer for the Vo-Tech Advisory Board, the Altoona Literacy Program, and the Blair County Human Service Advisory Board.
She enjoyed daily crossword puzzles and looked forward to watching the Steelers, Penguins, and Panthers.
Barb’s legacy of kindness, strength, and service will live through her family and all those blessed to have known her. She will be deeply missed.
Friends will be received 1 to 3pm Monday, November 24, 2025 at Sorge Funeral Home & Crematory Inc., Hollidaysburg, where a funeral service will immediately follow at 3pm.
Private interment at Alto Reste Park.
