Barry S. “Big Water” Rains, 54, of Altoona, started a new journey on Monday, after a short fight with cancer. He was born in Birmingham AL, son of Bart and Judith (Pearson) Rains. He married Sherri Fleck in 1991.
Surviving are his loving wife of 32 years; his mother, Judy; his father, Bart; six brothers and sisters; his mother-in-law; his father-in-law; a brother-in-law; a sister-in-law; aunts and uncles; his two dogs: Cricket and Lizzie; and several close friends and supporting co-workers at H.F. Lenz.
Barry was an avid outdoorsman. He was one with the woods and rivers and always enjoyed an adventure. He loved hiking Mountain View Trail in Blue Knob with Cricket.
He canoed several lakes in the Adirondacks and was known to venture off into the Boundary Waters of Minnesota for weeks for canoeing and camping. Canoeing the Youghiogheny River was also a favorite pastime.
Barry was an avid Pittsburgh Penguins fan.
At the request of the deceased, there will be no public services. Cremation service by Sorge Funeral Home & Crematory Inc., Hollidaysburg.
