Beverly Ann (Reed) Johnson

Sept 29, 1937 – March 14, 2023

Beverly Johnson went home to be with her Lord and Savior whom she loved and served and to be reunited with her loved ones in heaven. She was born in Altoona, daughter of the late Earl F. and Charlotte (Houseman) Reed.

She married Merle H. Wagner Jr., who preceded her in death in 1988. She then married Elmer J. Johnson in 1994, who preceded her in death in 2019.

Surviving are a son, Randy J. Wagner and wife Pam of Altoona; stepson, Alan Johnson and wife Bobbi Jo of Turkey Valley; a stepdaughter, Dee A. Cherry and husband Don of Scotch Valley; sons in law: Mark Miller of Tipton, and John Keller of Sinking Valley; 18 grandchildren; and 26 great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a brother, James A. Reed; three daughters: Wendie L. Miller, Lori A. Keller, and Lindy K. Wagner; son-in-law, Bob Ginter; grandchildren: Lauren Ashleigh Wagner, Dustin Zitsch, and Tyler Ginter; and great grandchildren: Kendal and Karoline Miller.

Beverly graduated from Altoona High School in 1955, and worked at Dairy Queen, WFBG TV / AM Radio as an executive assistant, Kmart as a sales associate, Puritan Sportswear as a key punch operator, and Warnaco Sportswear as a payroll clerk.

She graduated from the Altoona Hospital School of Nursing as a Licensed Practical Nurse in 1974, and from Penn State School of Nursing as a Registered Nurse in 1990.

Beverly worked for the Altoona Hospital, New Beginnings at Cove Forge, and as a private duty nurse.

She retired from Morrison Cove Village as an RNAC in 1998 and volunteered as an RN for Dr. Zane Gates for 15 years.

She truly loved nursing with all her heart.

Beverly was a charter member of the Altoona Bible Church where she started singing in the choir at age 15, taught Sunday school, played the organ, lovingly served as “camp nurse” and taught bible lessons at Grace Kids Camp. She volunteered for many church activities and loved serving the Lord in many ways wherever she was needed at Altoona Bible Church.

Beverly enjoyed camping, travelling, needle work, crocheting, reading, and spending wintertime in Florida with her many friends.

She loved spending time with her family, her church family, and especially her “extended family” in the Inglenook Apartments at the Presbyterian Village in Hollidaysburg.

Friends will be received from 4 to 7pm Monday March 20, 2023, and from 10 to 11am Tuesday at Altoona Bible Church, where a funeral service will immediately follow at 11am with Pastor Aaron J. Harris and Pastor Stewart W. McClelland officiating.

Interment at Alto Reste Park.
