Burton L. “Burt” “Pop” Orwig, 88, of Hollidaysburg, passed away Monday at home. He was born in Freeport, IL, son of the late Willis and Beatrice (Wilcox) Orwig. He was the last surviving member of his family. Burton married Linda Thompson in 1970.
He will be missed by his wife of 54 years; two children: Bob, married to Michelle, in Alabama and Patte, wife of Joe Nyanko, in Duncansville; a nephew Mike, married to Patricia in Florida; six grandchildren: Dalton Orwig and wife, Vicky, Carson Orwig and wife, Carmen, and Paige, Hannah, Lindsay, and Ally Nyanko; and two great-granddaughters: Izzy and Peyton.
He was preceded in death by a son, Burt “Tyke” Jr.; two sisters: Doris and Donna; two brothers: Donald and Willis Jr.; and a nephew, Steve.
Burt was a partner in an ownership group of Ponderosa Steakhouses in the state of Indiana before moving at the age of 53 to become a McDonald’s owner/operator in Ebensburg, PA. He happily owned eight restaurants in Blair and Cambria counties until his retirement in 2016.
He was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Hollidaysburg. He enjoyed fishing, watching his favorite teams, the Indiana Pacers and Indianapolis Colts, camping, traveling in his RV, making fries and watching the drive thru, playing wallyball, basketball, and Texas Hold-em, as well as spending time with family and friends.
Burt was a caring and compassionate man who epitomized hard work and perseverance. He touched countless lives in every role of life; husband, father, grandfather, friend to all, and business owner.

Friends will be received from 4-6pm Friday, March 7, 2025 at First United Methodist Church, Hollidaysburg, where a memorial service will immediately follow at 6pm.
Private inurnment at Calvary Cemetery.
