Charles R. Chipperfield Jr.

March 2, 1940 – Feb 20, 2026

Charles R. Chipperfield Jr., 85, of Altoona, passed away Friday.  He was born in Altoona, son of the late Charles Sr. and Naomi (Quenzler) Chipperfield.  He married Virginia Piper, who preceded him in death in 2024 after sharing 65 years of marriage.

Surviving are children: Timothy, Todd, Hope, Edward and wife Melissa, Charity Baer, and Robert Mesmer and wife Sara; 19 grandchildren, 29 great-grandchildren, and a great-great granddaughter; and a sister, Shirley Halfpenny.

He was preceded in death by children: Charles III, Beth Ellen, and Faith; and sisters: Phyllis Scott, Elizabeth Arsenault, and Sharon Johnson.

Chip enlisted in the US Army after attending Altoona High School.

He retired from Yellow Cab Co.

Chip was a member of the Riggles Gap Bible Church.

He enjoyed cat fishing, being a volunteer firefighter, and word puzzles.

Friends will be received from 2-4pm Monday March 2, 2026 at Sorge Funeral Home & Crematory Inc., Hollidaysburg, where a memorial service will follow at 4pm.
