Clarence W. “Pap” Eckard, 87, East Freedom, passed away Wednesday, February 14, 2018, at Altoona Center for Nursing Care.
He was born July 19, 1930, in East Freedom, son of the late John E. and Nellie (Malone) Eckard. He married Gloria F. Gray in 1953 in Cumberland, Md.
Surviving are his wife of 64 years; two daughters: Luann Steele of York and Leann Rightnour of East Freedom; two sons: Larry of Hanover and Barry of York; nine grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
He was the last surviving sibling of four sisters and seven brothers.
Pap served in the 110th infantry of the 28th Division of the U.S. Army during the Korean conflict, and he received the Germany Occupational Medal. He retired from Ken Snyder Co. after 20 years as an electrical contractor. He then went on to work in the tire business at Freedom Tire Co., and retired as proprietor after 30 years of service.
He enjoyed working in his greenhouse, family gatherings, and he was an avid hunter and fisherman, and he enjoyed riding on his four-wheeler.
Pap’s memory will be forever cherished by his wife, children and grandchildren.
Friends will be received from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. Friday, February 16, 2018, and 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Saturday, February 17, at Sorge Funeral Home Inc., Hollidaysburg, where a funeral service with military honors will follow at 1:00 p.m., Ministers Steve Marshall and Bobby Sylvia officiating. Interment will be at Leamersville Riverview Cemetery.
