Dale R ."Smitty" Smith

Dale R. "Smitty" Smith, 74 Duncansville, passed away Wednesday at UPMC Altoona, after a brief illness.

He was born at home in Newry, son of the late Cloid Sr. and Laura (Yingling) Smith. He married Arlette Lanzendorfer in 1971.

Surviving are his wife of 48 years; a daughter, Laurie Rowles and husband, Chris, of Duncansville; a son, Todd A. and wife, Holly, of Duncansville; four grandchildren: Hailey Shaffer, Daniel Kindle, Nittany and Cassidy Smith; three sisters: Marietta Martz of Newry, Marlene J. Smith of Hollidaysburg and Lenora Shaw of Altoona; and a brother-in-law, Bernard Harker.

He was preceded in death by three siblings: Leona Harker, Cloid Jr. and Dennis Smith.

He served in the Army Reserves. He retired from Suburban Propane in 2010 after 40 years of service. 

Smitty enjoyed hunting, farming, cows and cats, and gardening. He also enjoyed spending time with his family.

Friends will be received from 2:00 to 4:00 and 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Sunday, March 15, 2020, and from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. Monday, March 16, 2020, at Sorge Funeral Home & Crematory Inc., Hollidaysburg, where a funeral service will immediately follow at 11:00 a.m., the Reverend Richard N. Henry Jr. officiating. Private interment will be at Old St. Patrick Cemetery.
