David C. Mattern, 71, Hollidaysburg, died Thursday at The Village at Morrisons Cove, Martinsburg.
He was born in Altoona, son of the late Richard and Ethel (Leamer) Mattern. He married Betsy L. Cameron in 1971, and she preceded him in death in 2005.
Surviving are two daughters: Meghan Myers and husband, Matt, of Hollidaysburg, and Dr. Mandy Johnson and husband, Matt, in Florida; three grandchildren: Cameron, Caleb and Evelyn; and two sisters: Nancy of Roaring Spring and Joyce in New Jersey.
David graduated from Hollidaysburg Area High School in 1966. He graduated from Penn State in 1970, with a Bachelor of Science degree in horticulture. He was an owner of Mattern Orchard, and retired from Blair Senior Services as operations manager.
He was a member of the PSU Alumni Association and served on the Hollidaysburg Area School Board for many years. He was an active member of Curryville Church of the Brethren, where he served on the church board.
David enjoyed traveling with family, camping, and volunteering for several area charities. He also enjoyed being a handy-man.
Friends will be received from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. today, April 20, 2019, at Sorge Funeral Home & Crematory Inc., Hollidaysburg, where a funeral service will immediately follow at 7:00 p.m., Pastor David Stiles officiating. Interment will be at New Canoe Creek Cemetery.
