David “Robert” Clapper, 89, of Hollidaysburg, passed away suddenly at his residence on Sunday, prior to being picked up for church service. He was born in Altoona, son of the late David B. and Mary (Hoover) Clapper.
He is survived by two brothers: Donald L. of Chambersburg and Harold C. of Altoona; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Alton Clapper.
Robert was a 1952 graduate of Hollidaysburg High School.
He was employed as a block operator for New York Central Railroad before serving as a non-combatant in the U.S. military at Norristown State Hospital near Philadelphia, PA in 1957. He was employed by various companies over his remaining working years.
Robert was well known in the area for his dedication to historical preservation. He served as president of Blair County Heritage, Inc.
Robert enjoyed helping with the Hollidaysburg Community Farm Show for many years.
Friends will be received from 1 to 2pm Friday October 6, 2023, at Sorge Funeral Home & Crematory Inc., Hollidaysburg, where a funeral service will immediately follow at 2pm with Pastor Tim Martin officiating.
Private interment at Carson Valley Cemetery.
