Don played second base for the 11th Ward team in 1949 when the team won the inaugural year championship of the George Kelly Federation. He then attended training camps with the Brooklyn Dodgers and Cleveland Indians, but decided not to pursue a career in Major League Baseball so that he could keep the Sabbath Day holy. He retired from Ward Trucking after a 42-year career as a local driver. Don was a member of Westminster Orthodox Presbyterian Church in Hollidaysburg. He served for many years as a choir director and church elder. His gift for and his infectious love of singing enriched the lives of generations. His deep faith permeated every aspect of his life, touching all those who had the privilege of knowing him. He unfailingly showed not only the love of his life, Jean, but also each of his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren what it means to truly be loved.
