March 6, 1928 – May 18, 2023
Ethel Mae (Krape) Beightol, 95, of Duncansville, passed peacefully at home on May 18, 2023. She was born in Bellefonte, Centre County, and was the daughter of the late Ward C. and Florence (Heltman) Krape of Zion. She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 73 years, Kenneth F. Beightol; infant son, Ronald; brothers: Paul and Lowell Krape; and sisters: Jean Benford, Emma Miller, Sara Pletcher, and Mary Lois Rine.
Ethel is survived by Ronalds’s twin, Donald (Victoria) Beightol of Alum Creek, WV; and daughter, Debra (Russell) Wade of Duncansville. Also left to cherish memories of the beloved grandmother are granddaughters: Ashley (Jacob) Hargreaves of Altoona and Allison Wade of Pittsburgh; and grandson, Andrew Beightol of Alum Creek, WV. She also left a void in the hearts of step-granddaughter, April Meadows of South Charleston, WV; and great-grandchildren: Quinn and Harrison of Altoona and Ava of Alum Creek, WV.
Ethel graduated in the 1945 class of Bellefonte High School. After her marriage to Ken on November 28, 1947, at the Krape family farm in Zion, the couple moved to DuBois for 18 years until Ken was transferred to the Atlantic Richfield Tanker Terminal in Altoona. They built a home in Duncansville and have lived there since 1968.
She was exceptionally accomplished in many crafts like sewing, needlepoint, quilting, ceramics, porcelain figurines, and Christmas ornaments. Many Christmas trees in the area are adorned by ornaments that Ethel painstakingly hand painted with very fine detail.
Ethel and Ken liked to travel and made numerous trips with family and friends. She loved holidays, especially Christmas, and tirelessly prepared their home for holiday festivities. She doted on her grandkids and great-grandkids and made every effort to participate in and support their activities and revel in their accomplishments. She will be sorely missed by all who knew and loved her.
At the request of the family, there will be no public services. Cremation service by Sorge Funeral Home & Crematory Inc., Hollidaysburg.
