Eugene David Downey

Eugene David Downey, 67, of Altoona, passed away at his residence. He was born in Altoona, son of the late Eugene P. and Florence (Welker) Downey. Surviving are a son, Vernon Paul Downey and wife Carrie in Kentucky; a daughter, Deborah Downey in Washington; and five grandchildren. Gene was preceded in death by a son, David Jr. in 2016.

Gene graduated from Penn State in 1993 with a BS in Human Development and Family Studies, where he graduated with highest distinction, being named the Outstanding Adult Student as a senior at University Park.

He enjoyed working with his hands and cooking. He was known for his chili and trying new recipes, adjusting the flavor each time to make it just a little bit better.
