Francis “Jerry” Basal, 83, of Duncansville passed away Friday. He was born in Cresson, son of the late Joseph and Julia (Glass) Basal. He married Alice R. Byrnes in 1962.
Surviving are his wife of 64 years; two daughters: Deborah Andrews and husband Mike of Hollidaysburg, and Lisa Loose and husband Lloyd of Tyrone; a son, David and wife Brenda of Duncansville; four grandchildren: Katelyn, Brandon, Kyle, and Brenton; and four great-grandchildren; a sister, Mary Luetkenhaus and a brother, Joseph.
He was preceded in death by siblings: Patricia, James, and Leonard Basal.
Jerry attended Cresson High School and “retired” as proprietor of Basal Construction, and operated Longview RV Storage.
He was a member of St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church.
Jerry enjoyed working, camping, and his dog, Gracie.
Friends will be received from 3 to 6pm on Tuesday, May 5, 2026 at Sorge Funeral Home & Crematory Inc., Hollidaysburg where a Vigil service will be held. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10am on Wednesday, May 6, 2026 at St. Rose of Lima, Fr. John Lynam Celebrant.
Private interment at New St. Mary Cemetery.
