Gerald C. McKendree, 74, Altoona, passed away Sunday at his residence, after an extended illness.
He was born in Tacoma, Wash., son of the late Charles and Irene (Powley) McKendree. He married Cheryl Heimbach in 1967.
Surviving are his wife of 53 years; a daughter, Reagan Metzgar and husband, Rich, of Hollidaysburg; three sons: Kirk and wife Lori, and Jake, all of Altoona, and Josh and wife, Andrea, of Langhorne; seven grandchildren: Zachary, Talon, Adam, Arden, Kasen, Easton and Maddie; and a sister, Cindy Barr of Dysart.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Shannon, in 1995.
Jerry was a 1963 graduate of Altoona High School. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps. He retired from Conrail after 24 years as an electrician.
He was always building something, enjoyed hunting and shooting, spending time with his family and he built his own home. There was nothing he couldn’t figure out.
All services are private at Sorge Funeral Home & Crematory Inc., Hollidaysburg. Interment will be at Alto-Reste Park.
