Gladys T. (Kelly) Glunt, 96, of Newry, passed away Sunday. She was born at home in Poplar Run, daughter of the late Pius and Ethel (Costlow) Kelly. She married Loris Glunt in 1947. He preceded her in death in 1976.
Surviving are a daughter, Elizabeth Long of Altoona; five sons: Paul F. and James P., both of Duncansville, Charles E. and William D. and wife, Diane, all of Newry, and Christopher D. of Queen; 18 grandchildren; 26 great grandchildren; five sisters: Mary Hetrick of Duncansville, Sister Jane Kelly R.S.M. of Newry, Constance Dolinsky of Newry, Eileen Hileman of Duncasville, and Rebecca Elias in OH; three brothers: Gerald Kelly in NY, Louis of Duncansville, and Richard of Harrisburg.
She was preceded in death by a daughter, Mary T. Longenecker and siblings: Sister Charlene Kelly R.S.M., Dolores Simpson, Patrick, Michael, John, and E. Charlene Kelly.
Gladys graduated from Hollidaysburg High School in 1945.
She was elected Justice of the Peace of Newry Borough in 1950 for a six-year term. Gladys was appointed Treasurer of the Borough from 1953 to 2010. From 1967 to 2013, she served as Tax Collector for the Borough; then again in 2015. She also served on the Board of Elections as a Judge for many years.
Gladys was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church, Newry, where she retired in 2001 as the Church Secretary.
Friends will be received from 4 to 7pm Wednesday April 26, 2023, at Sorge Funeral Home & Crematory Inc., Hollidaysburg. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11am Thursday at St. Patrick Catholic Church, Newry with Fr. Allen P. Zeth, Celebrant.
