Helen F. Hamberger, 99, of Hollidaysburg, passed away Friday. She was born in Jenners, daughter of the late Engelbert and Mary (Nye) Hamberger.
She is survived by two nieces and two nephews.
She was preceded in death by two sisters, Emily Falger and Marie Settle.
She graduated from Spangler HS and Indiana State Teacher’s College, where she earned a BS in Elementary Ed. She taught in the Spangler, Altoona, and Northern Cambria School Districts, retiring in 1986 after 43 years of teaching.
Helen was a consummate volunteer for the Altoona Adult Reading Program, and her Parish’s CCD Program. She was also a volunteer for American Red Cross Blood Drives.
Helen was a former member of Holy Cross Church, Spangler, and a current member of St. Michael Catholic Church, Hollidaysburg, where she founded a weekly prayer group that has met for 27 years.
She enjoyed teaching, praying, travelling, music, and especially playing the piano.
Friends will be received from 6pm to 8pm Tuesday, August 31, 2021, at Sorge Funeral Home & Crematory Inc., Hollidaysburg. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10am Wednesday, September 1, 2021, at St. Michael Catholic Church, Hollidaysburg. Fr. Alan E. Thomas, Celebrant.
