James C. Vreeland, 82, of Hollidaysburg, formerly of Bedford, passed away Sunday. He was born in Binghamton NY, son of the late James Q. and Laura (Barrus) Vreeland. He married Mary Lou Meighan in 1963.
Surviving are his wife of 60 years; a daughter Tracy Flynn and husband Rusty of Duncansville; a son, Jay and wife Beth of Greensburg; four grandchildren: Brian and Brady Flynn, and Jake and Sophie Vreeland. He was preceded in death by a sister, Carol Coney.
Jim graduated from St. Paul’s High school in Binghamton, NY, then King’s College and Xavier University, earning a MBA in Hospital Administration.
He served in the US Army from 1966-1969, retiring as a Captain with the Medical Service Corps.
Jim worked at Eye & Ear Hospital in Pittsburgh, Greensburg Hospital, and retired from UPMC Bedford Hospital in 2000 after serving as President and CEO for 30 years.
He was past President of Bedford Rotary and the Hospital Asso. of Penna., and a member of the Blairmont Club.
Jim was a member of St. Michael Church.
His greatest pride was being an adoring Pap to his grandchildren.
Jim was known for his uplifting personality and ability to make you happy with his fun sense of humor. He always wore the most welcoming smile, brought levity to sadness, and let everyone feeling much happier about their day. We will miss him dearly and will carry his spirit with us always.
Friends will be received from 10-11am on Saturday Jan 21, 2023, at St. Michael Church, Hollidaysburg, where a funeral Mass will immediately follow at 11am with Fr. Alan E. Thomas, Celebrant. Committal at Greenlawn Cemetery.
