On Thursday, May 9, 2024, Jennie Helen Hansis (nee McCready) passed away peacefully at the Montfort Hospital in Ottawa, Canada. Jennie was the beloved wife for 66 years of the late Donald Hansis and a loving mother to Robert (Betty), Richard (Janice), Ronald (Carolyn), and Scott (Diane). Jennie was a proud Grammy to 11 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren.
Jennie was a 1943 graduate of Hollidaysburg Senior High School.
Jennie was known for her strength of character, her love of family, and maker of the best chocolate chip cookies which were always available when the family visited. She was an award-winning Avon sales representative, a passionate quilter for many years, and a life member of the Order of the Eastern Star of Whitehall, New York.
Donald’s work as a U.S. Immigration Officer brought the family to Montreal, Quebec where they lived for 59 years but Jennie’s heart was always in Pennsylvania.
Jennie was predeceased by her mother, Pauline, her twin sister Geneva G. Sorge, and niece Carrie of Pennsylvania. She is survived by her nephews Lloyd, Donald, and Melvin – all of Pennsylvania.
As per Jennie’s wishes, there were no formal funeral arrangements. A visitation for immediate family was held in Ottawa on May 11th before cremation.
