July 19, 1943 - March 29, 2021
Joann Roth Fiscel, age 77, of Hollidaysburg, PA, went home to be with the Lord on March 29, 2021. Joann was born in Morgantown, West Virginia, to Darrell and Marie (Harsh) Roth. Joann was a graduate of Morgantown High School (Morgantown, WV) and West Virginia University, where she obtained a Bachelor’s degree in Social Work. Joann worked for a time at the Sterling Faucet Company, Morgantown, WV. She then landed a job for the US State Department, where she was administratively deployed to the US Delegation at the UN for a general counsel meeting. For many years, she was Vice President at American Health Programs in Bucks County, PA. After “retiring” she was proprietress of Top Drawer, a high end consignment shop in downtown West Chester, PA.
A devout member of the Methodist Church, she was inducted into The Chapel of The Four Chaplains in recognition of work to further interfaith goals in 1980. At the time of her death, Joann was a member of Hollidaysburg First United Methodist Church, where she served as a mentor to confirmation class members, sang in the chancel choir, served on various committees and coordinated the church kitchen and cooked for various events.
Joann and Mahlon were blessed with over 48 years of wonderful marriage during which they enjoyed time together and with family, traveling (WVU Football Games), college basketball and football, the theatre, as well as The Eagles, Phillies, Steelers and Pirates. They supported each other in church and work activities. Joann greatly loved the four dogs that she and Mahlon shared during their marriage.
Joann was very proud of the accomplishments of Rebecca, Bob, her granddaughters, nieces, and nephew, in their education, work, and community. Joann had the gift of conversation- there was nobody she couldn’t talk to. She loved people, had a generous heart, and shared her belief in Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior by word and action. She positively impacted the hearts and minds of family, friends, and everyone she ever met.
Joann is survived by her devoted husband of 48 years, Mahlon R. Fiscel, as well as brother Jerry Roth of Ohio, sister- in- law Linda Roth of Ohio, daughter and son in law Robert and Rebecca (Fiscel) Cady of Alexandria, Virginia, granddaughters Virginia, Margaret and Elizabeth Cady, nieces and nephews Kathi (Eric) Roeter, Joshua (Lori) Roth, and Kristie (Ian) Cleaver. She was predeceased by her parents as well as her beloved older brother, Leroy.
Friends will be received from 12-2pm on Saturday, April 10, 2021 at Sorge Funeral Home & Crematory Inc., Hollidaysburg, where a Celebration of Life will immediately follow at 2pm. Live streaming of the service will be available at www.sorgefuneralhome.com
