John Myers Obituary

John G. Myers Sr., 75 of Altoona, passed away Tuesday at his residence, after an extended illness. He was born in Altoona, son of the late Homer G. and Helyn L. (Rice) Myers. He married Esther A. Dorazio in 1963.

Surviving are his wife of 56 years; a daughter, Stephanie Ann Bell in OH; a son, John G. Jr. and wife Elizabeth in CO; three grandchildren: Lorenzo, Dominic, Cameron; a sister, Susan Rice-Balderson and husband Robert in MD; and a brother, Stephen A. and wife Cathy in AK.

John was preceded in death by brothers: Paul Rice and Daniel Myers. He was a graduate of Altoona High School, class of 1962, where he was on the basketball team. John worked for William F. Gable Co. for 20 years, then retired as a salesman from Blair Mill Outlet in 2012.

John was a faithful member of many Masonic organizations, starting his journey in 1987. He was Past Master of Hiram Lodge 616 F&AM; member of Mountain Lodge 281 F&AM; Past Presiding Officer of Mountain Royal Arch Chapter 189, Council No. 9, and Commandery No. 10; Sovereign Order of Knights Preceptor; Order of the Silver Trowel; Honorary 33° Mason and member of the AASR Valley of Altoona, where he served in all four bodies; Jaffa Shriners, where was a clown and Order of Quetzalcoatl; Conemaugh Chapter, York Rite Sovereign College No. 34, Johnstown; Constance Conclave, Knights of the Red Cross of Constantine, Johnstown; Grand Tall Cedar of Chief Logan Forest 131 Tall Cedars of Lebanon; York Rite Cross of Honor; Past Worthy Patron of Altoona Chapter 290 OES; Past Royal Patron of Juniata Valley Court #121, Order of Amaranth.

All services are private at Sorge Funeral Home & Crematory Inc., Hollidaysburg. A private funeral service will be live streamed to www.sorgefuneralhome.com at 11:00 am Monday, May 18, 2020, followed by a private Masonic Memorial Service. Committal at Calvary Cemetery.
