John “Jack” P. Porta, 81, of Altoona, passed away on Monday after an extended illness. He was born in Baltimore, MD, son of the later Herman and Rita (Wiedemer) Porta.
Surviving are his long-time companion, Ellen Casey, who was the love of his life; a sister, Regina Sharpe; and brother, Bob (Candy).
He was preceded in death by his sisters: Mary Ann Benz and Patricia Aikens.
John retired from UPMC Home Health care in 2024 after 16 years of service and was previously employed by Norfolk Southern retiring in 2001 after 28 years’ service. He was owner/operator of Altoona Emergency Services for 13 years from 1988 to 2001.
He spent his childhood in Warriors Mark until the family moved to Altoona in his teenage years,
John attended Mount Carmel Church.
His hobbies included doing yard work. He also enjoyed all types of technology, was also a proficient carpenter and enjoyed camping with Ellen.
John was also a fan of Penn State football, NASCAR, and the Oakland Raiders.
At the request of the deceased there will be no viewing or service.
